In general, Sight Words are words that cannot be sounded out phonetically and must be read by sight. Sight words, in general, are a part of common core standards. Learning them by sight helps them avoid having to take the time to figure out what word they are looking at. Some of these sight words are not phonetic and difficult for early readers to sound out. The faster they can read and remember common core sight words, the more fluent they become. Use so many types of text: leveled readers, pocket chart poems, environmental print, word walls, picture books, chapter books, work sheets, any text! Students will use one of the differentiated recording sheets to record the word in various ways. The focus wands help students to really focus in on the specific words you choose. Students will search for the word in the text or around the room. In this set of activities, students will use a real magnifying glass, or the focus wand provided, to find the word in a text or around in the room.
